This is probably the project of which my father is least proud, but I think it might be one of my mother's favorites. It's definitely on my own short list of top projects, partially because it was easy, partially because it was fun, and mostly because it is so useful.
Inspiration came from a magazine and impetus from my mother. Materials were simple: four crates, a plywood square, some spare wood to shim the uneven boxes, four wheels, stain, brushes and polyurethane. The two central challenges were the uneven height/width of the boxes and their rough finish, which destroyed the brushes when we applied the stain. The finish was done with a spray, so that saved some time and energy.
Two coats did the trick.
Because it sits so low, no one will ever notice the shims.
One fun new detail: the stamp in the previous image. Proof of hand-crafted quality!
